About: Collaborating with the advocacy group legalizedance.org, our team has crafted a dynamic social media campaign to champion the right to dance freely in New York City. The centerpiece of our initiative is the “Dare to Dance” challenge, which invites TikTok users to express their support through dance, set to the invigorating tune of “Bad Boys” by Inner Circle.
Digital Content Collection: Our campaign is anchored by a comprehensive Dare To Dance PowerPoint Presentation meticulously designed to elucidate its campaign’s objectives. It features a curated selection of four TikTok videos— Dare2Dance Challenge Rules TikTok_Demo_Video, Video_3_Explanation Organizations, and Advocacy groups—. To view, click the links above.
Creative Campaign Showcase: Participants are enticed by the prospect of winning one of three grand prizes—a medal, a coffee mug, courtesy of our affiliate, Dance Parade New York, and a customized Dance Free NYC t-shirt, our rallying cry for this year’s Dance Parade theme. See medal below:
I initiated the project with an initial sketch of the Dance Free NYC logo. The goal was to capture the essence of Dance Free NYC while maintaining a clean and visually appealing look. See sketch below:
The design underwent a transformation. Starting from a simple black-and-white image. I gradually infused the B&W sketch with vibrancy by adding color. The goal was to evoke the spirit of dance and celebration. I wanted to enhance engagement and provide additional context, so I incorporated a QR code into the T-shirt design. The QR code allowed anyone scanning it to access information about Dance Parade, our legalizedance.org petition, and the Dance Free NYC theme. I made the T-shirt more interactive and informative by bridging the physical and digital realms. The photo gallery below chronicles the evolution of my design
Moreover, winners gain the extraordinary opportunity to perform on stage at the upcoming Dance Parade event. The campaign’s visual elements, including individual Video Graphics and the Finalize Assets for our logo and flyer, are showcased on the Open Lab website for public viewing.
Advocacy and Reform Initiatives: Dance Parade New York, a nonprofit organization, partners with LegalizeDance.org to challenge outdated zoning laws that restrict dance as a form of expression—a legacy of the 2001 enforcement by Mayor Giuliani. These laws, we believe, impinge upon our First Amendment rights. Despite their longstanding presence, Dance Parade New York has been actively campaigning for their repeal since 2008.
Petition Advocacy and Community Engagement: With a petition already amassing 4,000 signatures, our mission is to bolster LegalizeDance.org’s efforts to secure 10,000 signatures. This will enable us to present a compelling case to City Hall, demonstrating the widespread support for this cause among New Yorkers.
Digital Advocacy and Media Production: This project, a testament to our commitment to social advocacy, was created using a suite of creative tools, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Pro Create, Audacity, Capcut, and TikTok. The campaign is now poised for inclusion in a WordPress Portfolio on the Open Lab site, reflecting our dedication to professional excellence and our ability to craft compelling narratives for nonprofit and advocacy groups seeking to make a significant impact through social media.
